RESUMO
Se hizo un estudio comparativo y retrospectivo de los 243 pacientes con conductas suicidas durante 1991-1996, pertenecientes al área de salud del Policlínico "Armando García Aspurú" de Santiago de Cuba, con el fin de determinar, entre otras variables de interés, los factores desencadenantes de ese comportamiento y los métodos empleados para intentar suicidarse, así como la función del personal de Enfermería en cuanto a modificar actitudes en el núcleo familiar e individualmente. Se halló un predominio de las ideas suicidas en el sexo femenino, grupos etáreos de 15-29 años, nivel de escolaridad de secundaria básica y desocupados, fundamentalmente a causa de conflictos conyugales y familiares, que les llevaron a escoger en primer lugar la ingestión de psicofármacos como procedimiento para lograr su objetivo(AU)
A comparative and retrospective study was conducted among 243 patients from the health area of "Armando García Aspurú" Polyclinic that had a suicidal behaviour from 1991 to 1996 in order to determine, among other variables of interest, the factors causing this behavior, the methods used to attempt suicide and the role of the nursing personnel in the modification of family and individual attitudes. It was found a predominance of suicidal ideas in females aged 15-29 with junior high school educational level and unemployed, due mainly to marriage and family conflicts that led them to choose in the first place the ingestion of psychopharmacological agents to attain their objective(AU)
